11 May 2009: Silverstone Race 1

After qualifying second for both races by only 0.1 of a second to Gabriel Dias I would always be on the back foot, so the start to the race would be the most important part.

After warming my tyres up on the out lap as hard as I could I managed to get a great start as needed and overtook Gabriel by the first corner getting into first place. I kept pushing hard but struggled with the balance of the car in the beginning part of the race which enabled Gabriel to get up to the back of me.

After 5 laps into the race Gabriel made a move and made it stick which put me back to 2nd place project collaboration tools. I continued to push and managed to post the quickest lap time for the national class and got up to the back of Gabriel but by that time the chequered flag came out.

The race was hard but made more determined for the next race.

11 May 2009: Silverstone Race 2

After finishing second in the first race I wanted a first place to finish the weekend off well, starting second place again put me at a disadvantage but I knew I had good starts off the line so I thought I could get into the lead and stay there after some positive changes made to the car after race one.

After again warming the tyres up to get them at a good temperature I managed to get into first place from another clean get away. I had some traffic from other International cars that did not help me in trying to produce more of a lead back to Gabriel.

After many laps into the race Hywel Lloyd made a move not for position as he is in the International class and succeeded, but due to this surprise move I got pushed out wide and lost some valuable time to Gabriel.

After leading the whole race from first lap Gabriel caught up to me and put a good clean move on me into the chicane complex after the Copse corner, we ended up battling for the next four corners side by side but in the end Gabriel had the inside line and got past me.

I was pretty disappointed but very happy that I have a very good challenger for the title which will only push me on further and help myself get to that next level.

Good race weekend which I enjoyed massively but the outcome wasn’t as I would have hoped. I am now more determined than ever to win and succeed so off to Rockingham next to defend my lead.

20 Apr 2009: Oulton Park Race 1

Exciting start to the season. First qualifying session, pole position by 0.4 of a second.

First race, good start, especially avoiding the stalled cars on the grid.  Battled with Ollie Oakes, the international car.  Let him through, due to being in a different class car.  Settled down into a rhythm, got down to some competitive times, (including a fastest time, in lap 7).  Visor steaming up due to early morning fresh conditions.  Kept on pushing until the end and secured my first national class formula 3 victory, by 20 seconds over Gabriel Dias in second place.

First F3 podium!

20 Apr 2009: Oulton Park Race 2

I qualified second for the second race, which was always going to be tricky due to the lack of overtaking possibilities on circuit.

The start to the race was good and like the first race avoiding slow starters and stallers was the main priority. Battling with Gabriel Dias into the first corner I had to brake suddenly to avoid a spinning Wayne Boyd, unfortunately Dias saw his team-mate too late and collected him ending in a barrel roll which brought out a red flag.

After the red flag a new race start commenced.  I had a good start and kept out of trouble. The rest of the race was fairly straightforward but whilst driving around the car developed a steering issue. I still managed to  finish the second race in first place again setting the fastest lap.
